IIt truly was the most professional, organised tour I’ve ever been on, from the moment we all met at Antofagasta to our farewell dinner at Arica , you made sure we all had the best experience ever, a great mix of Biking and touristy things were included, Dakar of course was the highlight for me, and really couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to share the experience with..unreal scenery and every day was better than the next...in one word...BBBEEEAAAUUTIFUL!!!

I had to present a trip report to our local BMW club this weekend and it gave me time to reflect on the trip. Having done three guided tours and four self-organized trips people asked me a lot of questions about the pros and cons of each and which tour group and location I most enjoyed. My immediate answer was that the SAMtours Dakar trip this past month was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. It was a great combination of the Dakar excitement, fantastic scenery, great roads, lucky weather, and most of all the people. The people I traveled with and friends I made, the people we met along the way, and especially the people who ran the tour who made it all work.

Riding again with SAMt was a familiar thrill, with a dynamic twist. No routes are the same and no crowds are alike, but the comfort of riding with our old friends, made it all fit perfectly with the new friends we made; a wonderful mix of people who made an excellent riding experience, into an outstanding one. I’ll see you guys again.

We are very happy here, with my group finishing up another stage of Transamerica, we are 200 km from Antofagasta and God willing we’ll sleep at home tonight.

We are a little tired, the suits could stand up on their own, they’re heavily used but it’s great.

I really enjoyed the narrow highway from Salta to Jujuy, and also the Jama Pass, where we realized that at 4,900 m the bike needs a bit of turbo just to keep running.

I loved the hotel in San Pedro de Atacama for its style, it’s like the desert of Arizona but it’s very luxurious.

I want to tell you that I’m a person who works a lot, I started working young and I’m always looking for quality. This tour was full of special touches, and that’s what makes the difference and brings quality.

I want to thank you all - John, Gaby, and Gionata, because these days it’s not so easy to find quality. It’s hard to find someone who really makes an effort about everything and who does it with enthusiasm and dedication.

Each one of you puts a lot into making our tour interesting.

Gionata is also a very kind person. John is also a kind person, he’s easy to get on well with and he’s also a great person. Gaby is very efficient.

The curves, the tours, the routes that you have picked, and the bikes, are in great condition.

I enjoyed all of the days, but the best was the Jama Pass to San Pedro de Atacama, especially the curves to reach the salt flat.

Another fantastic day! We can’t describe it any other way. Different places and in less than three hours we climbed 5000 meters and now we’re on an incredible salt flat. We’re very happy.

The journey keeps getting better, we’re sure this stage is going to have a fabulous finale and we’re looking forward to what’s coming.

We’re very grateful for the way you’ve looked after us and the great attitude of SAMt at all times. This is the second trip we’ve taken with you and it certainly won’t be the last.

I really enjoyed the first day. It was something new, something different, with snow, cold water, long distances; it was very demanding, we’re very tired but very happy.

I really enjoyed the Cafayate vineyard with its environment, its vines, its setting, the weather we had, the very lovely historic hotel; we saw a different side of Argentina.

Dear All
Thank you, John, Gabby, Gionata and Natalia for all of your hard work, which made our recent adventure so wonderful.
The organisation of the tour was first class right from the start, and the calm and efficient way that such things as border crossings were dealt with during the tour continued this excellent level of organisational efficiency.
John’s sterling work in leading, Group Guy and Group Christian around three countries without seemingly putting a foot wrong was just brilliant and Gionata’s constant support work could not be faulted.
The bikes were presented really well, were obviously well cared for and loved and thus a joy to ride. Whilst not a BMW fan the bike was the perfect tool for the job
The route was nothing short of sensational, I really had no idea that Bolivia would be quite so beautiful, and that came after crossing the Andes and Lake Titicaca, all breathtaking. The scenery just got more varied and more stunning with each day that passed….right to the end. Quite something for a 3500 km ride.
I do not believe that anyone here in Europe would believe the quality of some of the roads we went on, just classic biker’s roads, with 100kms of turn after turn after turn. I don’t think any of us will forget the charge up the Andes from Tacna to Puno…… brilliant.
The hotels we stayed at were varied and interesting; all good, even the one you apologised for. An especial highlight being the Hacienda at Potosi.
Most of all, thank you for the friendly way that you all went about your business, with nothing too much trouble. It was great to spend so much time laughing.
Group Guy is well established and it is always a pleasure to ride and spend time with the four members of our Group, but I feel especially lucky to have ridden with Group Christian , a great bunch…if a bit slow on both tarmac and unsealed roads, still, they’ll learn as they get OLDER I’m sure.
Lets hope that Group Guy are not too old yet and will be able to come back to South America and ride with you again…maybe Patagonia.
Well, back to reality and the daily grind of normal life.
Thanks again, the tour could not have been any better, really it couldn’t.

Gabriela, John, Jono (a pleasant surprise) and Natalia were really committed with us and the result was.................a Perfect Tour. Everything worked perfectly, far beyond our expectations.
Every aspect of the tour was very well planed...the scenery, the roads, the canyons, the “rípio”, the bikes, the food, the drinks...couldn’t be better. We did not notice a single problem at all.
SAMt tours really have a great team. And they work hard. Why ? Because they are linked to motorcycle world and really like what they are doing.

PATAGONIA 2011
Dear John, Gabriela, Cesar, Cristian and Natalia, On reading the testimonials of previous trips, it is hard to add another point that would not have been made yet…This time round, it was a bunch of Europeans, mostly French, but also Swiss and Belgian (although living in Italy) that came across the Atlantic Ocean to figure out what motorbiking in Patagonia could look like. Our group was made of good mates who had already ridden thousands of miles together in various parts of Europe on BMW R 1200 GS and Adventures. John from California and David from Australia joined the group to make it more international and also more fun. The preparation work went extremely well, with Gabriela and Natalia working hard towards making sure that everything would have been anticipated. The most minute details were identified to make our journey as smooth as possible (including keeping our big bags in Santiago until our return from Punta Arenas at the end of the trip). In short, a great deal of professionalism was demonstrated by Gabriela and team in all instances throughout the preparation phase.

As for the trip, it was perhaps the trip of a lifetime ! Cesar and Cristian did a wonderful job in handling the group through sealed and gravel roads. And there were a lot of them ! Gabriela kept an eye on literally everything and extended an unmatched expertise to cope with the unexpected…which we provided in large amounts ! For example, one of us simply forgot his passport in his hotel bathrobe pocket…after a late evening swim in the hotel hot springs. The problem is that he realized this…after a 5 hour ride on gravel roads on reaching the Chile-Argentina border ! Gabriela kept very calm indeed and started to make phone calls. The rest of the story would be too long to explain, but she showed no particular embarrassment and did a great job to recover the situation. And there are lots of other unexpected events that she handled in the most professional and expert manner. I cannot praise her enough for her persistent good mood and calm.

We had the most wonderful experience throughout the trip, from outstanding landscapes, to excellent accommodation, food and local tours (Perito Moreno Glacier and Canal of Beagle excursion) and, as if this was not enough to make our journey exceptional, an ideal weather with virtually no rain at all.

How could I summarise all this with only key words ? Friendship, professionalism, excellence, nature, riding experience, humour, fun, occasional but sound tiredness, spa, food, wine, wind, pampa, dust, fantastic sceneries, guanacos, and so much more...Overall a full set of memories for the years to come.

I can only recommend SAMTours for their outstanding experience and professionalism in organizing motorbike tours in perhaps the most exciting and definitely unique area for motorbiking. Where do we go next ???

We both own BMW R 1200 GSA´s and have ridden extensively. Throughout outback Australia, and in North America, including Mexico.

We chose Samttours for our next adventure and went to the Dakar Rally, then hired the bikes to ride south from Santiago to Punta Arenas.

John, Gabriela and their right hand man Cesar worked tirelessly to attend to our needs, the bikes were well maintained and with new tires. Gaby is very well organized with everything attended to prior to all days ride. Her attention to details is to be commended. John is the tour leader a Spanish speaking Aussie and a top bloke he knew the route, the fuel stops and the best stops to view the Dakar race.

Cesar drives the backup truck with carries everything including his magic wok, in which he prepared delicious meals each lunch time as well as keeping us entertained with his humor.

The accommodation was fantastic, ranging from top hotels to boutique cabins and villas in the most remote places in Chile; how they find these fantastic spots, I’m buggered if I know!

The Dakar rally tours is not for the faint hearted, there is  often early starts to get to the race and long distances to complete the day, however there is always a cold beer waiting at the end of the ride.

Would we do it again?

When I first saw your ad on your web I thought , what a trip this Dakar tour it would be. Two minutes later I signed up. The adventure ,guides, organization,"food", on and off riding,camaraderie among participants made us fill all friends at the end of the tour even though we were  from different countries . The tour exceeded greatly my expectations. I enjoyed every single minute of it. For me it was the once of the life time trip.

Just returned from Chile/Argentina on an 8 day Moto trip with SAMT...let me begin with the fact we (6 in total) originally planned on heading to S. Patagonia with another tour operator, on our arrival to Santiago we were informed of an all out strike in Punta Arenas which was our meet-up destination to begin the trip.  We were told the trip would have to be canceled/postponed which was nothing short of a disaster for 6 guys who planned this for months- fast forward to Gaby and SAMt which we contacted in desperation hoping they could help us...SAMt had just returned from a 14day Dakar run so they were tired and certainly not looking to start another trip, especially on 1 day notice BUT given John and Gaby's passion for motorcycles and riders they BAILED us out.  They drove to our hotel with the dry bags and an itinerary they put together in 1 day- we are forever grateful that they not only saved our vacation but provided us with a trip of a lifetime...I am still amazed at the riding we did and the great leadership from Cristian our head rider and support from Gaby and Angel in the truck - you all set a very high standard in service, something that is missing in today's world.  This is my advice - you will not find a better run outfitter with just great fun-loving people, they did an unbelievable job on 1 day notice so I can't even imagine what they will do with a "normal" planning schedule...look no further and treat yourself to a trip of a lifetime with SAMt , thanks again to the entire staff and my invitation to return the favor if you are ever in Chicago is open ended, all the best in 2011,

A group of six of us just finished a tour with SAMt. In my opinion, it couldn't have gone any better. First, the riding was exciting, breathtaking and challenging; just what you want from a motorcycle vacation. Enough down time to recover, but a solid day ahead of you. I especially like the small off-road excursions into the desolate, more remote areas where you see the true character of the region.

Secondly, the hospitality was top notch. Every location we stayed was excellent: comfortable beds, good food and beautiful scenery. An abundance of good wine I seem to remember too.

Thirdly, the team that supported the trip, from start to finish were unbelievable. Our guide was the 25-year young Christian who immediately understood the dynamic and needs of the group and lead expertly through many technically challenging rides. The back-up truck always had hot coffee, cold water and any emergency needs. The attention to detail throughout the trip was beyond expectations.

The fact that SAMt accommodated us at very short notice (1 day!) and planned the itinerary and route with very well maintained BMW motorbikes is a great testimony to their strengths: they are undoubtedly South America's premier motorcycle adventure tour operator.

I think that SAMt tours is great! Six of us found ourselves stuck in Santiago heading for Patagonia for a motorbike trip with another company when due to a labor strike in the region we were heading to our trip was over. All roads closed no way in or out and the strike was not going to end in the next few days. The trip of a lifetime that we had planned for months was over after flying from all over the United States. One of the guys on the trip remembered talking to SAMt months back during the initial planning stages of our trip and said maybe we can contact them and maybe they can help us. We had our tour operator contact  John and Gaby from SAMt to see if they could help us. They had just come back from a tour 2 days prior but felt bad for us and somehow managed to put together the trip of a lifetime in less than 48 hours. We enjoyed every aspect of the trip and in 8 days on the bike covered more miles than we would have on the other trip and saw some of the most amazing scenery, wildlife, vineyards, mountains and local culture. I have been home just a few days and cannot stop talking about the trip. My coworker said to me when I showed up at work the other day that he hadn't seen that kind of smile on my face in a long time. I want to mention how hard Gaby, Christian and Angel worked to make the adventure over the top!! We have new friends for life and if I do another trip in South America I will go with SAMt. Thanks so much for everything and the video will be the icing on the cake! Everyone from SAMt went above and beyond the entire trip when they really didn't have to. Since I missed the tour season, I decided to be a little daring and take a self-guided tour based on the Mendoza Curves tour, and what a time I had! John and Gaby had my trip arranged within hours of my initial contact, and Natalia followed up on all my gear hire needs to make sure I had what I needed. Cristian gave me the confidence I needed (I speak minimal Spanish), and of I went on the most amazing three days of riding I've ever experienced.
Not only was the route awe-inspiring and breath-taking, the hotels were fabulous and the owners of both made me feel right at home. Even as a complete off-roading novice, the route was difficult, but I set my own pace and soaked in the spectacular views. I was so absorbed I mostly forgot to take photos, so my friends and family will just have to believe my tales of sheer mountain passes, open plains, wild horses and guanacos, and crazy dust storms I rode through.
I cannot speak highly enough of SAMt. The bike was faultless, the planning perfect, accommodation sumptuous, and service was impeccable. Thank you everyone at SAMt. I already have one referral on the way for you Cristian!!

As an introduction to South American Motorbike Tours, we decided to take a two-day trip over the Andes.  Guided by Cristian Mora, we had a fantastic time viewing the Aconcagua, local wineries, etc.  The riding was spectacular, as terrain ranged from on-road twists/turns to 365 bends on dirt/gravel. We were impressed with the professionalism and planning by SAMt, starting with correspondence from owners John & Gabriela. The journey was unexplainable to family and friends at home, you had to be there to believe it!   It's a must do adventure for those who enjoy touring on two wheels.   The variety of roads, breath taking scenery, high altitudes, busy cities, dry deserts and local culture made this trip very unique.

Peddals and I would like to say thank you to you all including Natalie for organizing the most incredible journey of a lifetime on the bikes.   We just had a fantastic time.  It was an unbelievable experience we just loved every minute, we really do mean that. We loved yours Gaby John and Christian´s company, the bears and everyone else in the group. All your day to day management,  wake up calls, breakfast, packing up, fuelling up, morning tea ,lunches,  and PISCOSOWS on arrival !!    Certainly did the trick. Team meetings were great You were  all  absolutely wonderful no stones left unturned!  We loved your free spirits your sense of adventure, landscape, unbelievable, rainforest and desert and the wonderful people.We are talking about join more adventures. 
Hope you are missing us on the next tour. I'm sure every tour is just fantastic; it takes special people to do what you are doing.
Anyway once again a very big thank you, it was just the best , we just loved every minute and Peddals and I feel that we have both made some great friends . GRACIAS!

To whom it may concern,

Our recent adventure to Chile, Bolivia and Peru was a once in a lifetime chance to experience the culture, dramatic scenery and people of these exciting destinations in South America.

John and Gaby with their company South America Motorbike Tours were our hosts on this trip, which from start to finish worked like a well oiled machine, with a friendly and helpful atmosphere offered to my wife (who was pillion) and me.

Our 23 day long adventure holiday exceeded all our expectations from the top of the range BMW motorbikes, top the quality of our hotel accommodation.

Special thanks to Gaby who supplied our on road meals and coffee breaks, which were timely and tasty.  We all look forward to the rest off the bikes and the occasional extra chocolate treats.

Well what can I say? I wish I was still there "cruisin". There would be no better way to see South America than on a motorcycle.

Gracias John (El Gringo), Gabriela (Flaca) & Cristian (Eduardo the Pool Boy) for a well organized tour & most enjoyable trip. Every day since returning I have flashbacks to the wonderful scenery, the roads, the people we met & the experiences gained. It was the holiday I needed to clear the mind, but still see & do so much all at the same time. People ask me what was the highlight & I tell them "all of it, everyday was a highlight". It truly was an adventure of a lifetime that I must do more than once.
